The ShaftDrive Concept

The ShaftDrive concept advances modern 24VDC conveying systems to the next level.  Conveyor rollers normally have “dead” shafts which serve only to support loads.

At Conroll, we have made them “live” so that they serve a dual function; both supporting conveyed loads and providing motive power.  Mounted on precision bearings, conveyor stub-shafts can be teamed with a variety of carrying elements – conveyor rollers of almost any material, as well as any desired configuration of conveying wheels.

There are no exposed belts, chains or motors in a ShaftDrive system.  Consequently, there are no pinch points that mandate space-wasting guards.  Operation is extremely quiet with brushless 24VDC motors providing motive power.

All power transmission elements are completely concealed in the conveyor side rails.  Depending on the choice of materials, ShaftDrive conveyors can be employed in wash-down areas, in clean rooms and other environmentally sensitive areas. Low power consumption is an additional advantage, even in the long-distance transport mode.  Standard Zero Pressure Accumulation (ZPA) modules are available with product presence sensing with photo-optics or a unique driven conveyor roller fitted with a sensing device.

The key to the system is the ShaftDrive cartridge which is hidden within the conveyor side frame.  It is fitted with a precision ball bearing and polyvee drive sheave.  Cartridges may also be fitted with a one-way clutch device to prevent package reversal on inclined conveyors.

Motorized Drive Rollers (MDRs) Conroll’s internally powered MDRs for roller conveyor modules feature an industry proven design.  Operating on safe low voltage 24 VDC, they are produced with brushless motors and in a variety of operating speeds and roller tube materials.  The drive end of the MDR is engaged by a standard stub shaft extending through the frame to drive surrounding conveyor rollers.  There are no exposed belts, and no guarding is required.  Several operating controls are available, including a smart control for zero pressure accumulation.  Noise levels are as low as 55 DB.

External Motor Drives (EMDs) Conroll’s compact EMD is ideal for use with both wheel and roller conveyor modules and eliminates the need to inventory MDRs of different lengths and speeds.  The 24 VDC brushless motor and gearbox with helical pinion gearing assures long life and quiet operation.  Speed can be adjusted by sheave diameter as well as by control cards.  Conroll’s EMD works with standard 24 VDC conveyor zone controls used for transport and accumulation.
